Spirit Hope

Helping Hands Award

This past January, the Spirit of Hope Foundation was presented with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Arlington’s Helping Hands Award.  The award was presented to Spirit of Hope Foundation for all of it’s support with the development and caring about the children of Arlington.  The award was accepted by Spirit of Hope Foundation’s founder, Pat McLaughlin and his lovely daughter Sheridan at the year end Boys and Girls Club Board meeting.  The Foundation was truly honored and is appreciative of their ongoing relationship with the Boys and Girls Clubs.

4th Annual Jr Staff Day

The 4th Annual Jr Staff Day was held in August.  It is a fun day to reward Jr Staff members from each branch of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Arlington.  One child from each club is invited to a day that starts in downtown Ft. Worth.  The children tour New York Life on the 33rd floor of a high rise overlooking all of downtown Ft. Worth.  They are greeted and taken on a tour of the office where they meet several professionals of New York Life.  The professionals take time out of their day and give a motivational talk to the children.  After the tour and talks, the children and some of the New York Life Professionals walk downtown to enjoy a nice lunch.  At lunch, the children ask questions, visit,  are encouraged to excel in life, and are presented with a plaque of recognition from the Spirit of Hope Foundation.  Upon leaving downtown, the children are invited back to Arlington for a back to school shopping spree of clothes, shoes, and school supplies.  If you would like to donate to this event, please click on support us and donate.

6th Annual Back to School Day

The 6th Annual Back to School Day for the children at the Catholic Charities Assessment Center was held on July 18th, 2011.  This is one of the children’s favorite events during the year.  The Spirit of Hope Foundation teams up with The Arlington Ulster Project and treats the children to a day full of suprises.  We start the day by picking the children at the Assessment Center (a temorary place for children that have been abused and/or abandoned by their families) and take them to Outback Steakhouse in Arlington.  There, our dear friend Rod Pitzer, treats the kids and the volunteers to a great lunch. While we are there the Spirit of Hope Foundation presents the kids with a new pair of shoes.  From there, we head to Putt-Putt Golf and Games for some golf and games.  Upon leaving, the Ulster Project presents the children with a backpack full of school supplies.  Next, we head to Target for a shopping spree.   The Spirit of Hope Foundation presents each child with a gift card to purchase clothes and other school neccessities.  We wrap the day up by taking the children back to the Center.  We do a follow up visit to the Center later in the week to enjoy lunch and the children’s company.  This event is not only a great day for the children of the Assessment Center, it is also a life long memory for the teens of the Ulster Project.  For the past five years, this event has been voted favorite event by the Ulster Project teens.  We appreciate the relationship we have developed with the Ulster Project and look forward to this event for many years to come.  If you would like to donate to this event, please click on support us and make a donation.

Spring Break Fishing Trip

The Spirit of Hope Foundation will be hosting several groups of kids to go fishing with us this  Spring Break at Lake Richland Chambers.   We will be taking a guided fishing trip with Gone Fishin Guide Service headed up by Royce and Adam Simmons.  Last year, we caught lots of Sand Bass and Hybrids on a chilly day on the lake.  It was a first time fishing experience for many of the children we took.  If you would like to sponsor one of the children’s fishing trips for this year, please click on the support us and contribute.  Check back after Spring Break for photos.

It is time to mark your calendar for our 5th annual Spirit of Hope Sporting Clay Event coming up on Saturday, June 2th. We will continue with the tradition of raffling off a Beretta Shot Gun and other wonderful accessories for our hunting and amateur and professional shooters. We will start with a light breakfast then go shoot up 100 clays and back for a home cooked meal from the St. Vincents Men’s club. This is not only a fun event but as always, a way to give back to our local community of children whose experience of life is not what is should be. We are not only looking for a celebrity shooter, but lots of new shooters for this year’s shoot.   All proceeds help fund the Back to School Day mentioned on our website.  Hope to see you all there. The 9th Annual Golf Tournament

The 9th Annual Spirit of Hope Golf Tournament was held on October 22nd, 2011 at Grand Oaks Golf Club.  We had 112 golfers come play on a beautiful day.  We would like to thank all those who volunteered, played, donated, and sponsored.  A lot of fun and fellowship was had by all.  We had a great round of golf, an excellent dinner from Outback Steakhouse in Arlington, and a fun and exciting awards banquet with live auction.  The proceeds from the golf tournament will go towards our Annual Christmas Party for 200 less fortunate children in our community.  Thanks again for the support and we look forward to seeing everyone again in the fall.
